Concierge - past and present
"Did you know that the profession of concierge was already known in the Middle Ages? At that time he was responsible for the maintenance of burning candles in the chambers and corridors of the castle. He knew exactly what, when and where was going on, and all the nooks and crannies of the castle. With time, the scope of responsibility broadened and the medieval concierge also began to take care of the incoming guests and fulfilling all their desires.
Initially, his job was connected only with the duties of a porter and a doorman. However, it was quickly verified, with the change of lifestyle. Concierge became the guest's personal assistant for the stay, he organized meetings, trips to theatres, restaurants, took care of entertainment and was responsible for the logistics of the guest's stay. Soon this profession became so important that in 1929 the first concierge association "Golden Keys" was established in Paris.
Our special task man
"Mr. Maciej works as a concierge in our hotel. He is a well-organized, very communicative and loyal person. He is ready for new challenges everyday and his openness, creativity and commitment make guests willing to entrust him with their personal matters. This is definitely the right person for the right position and I recommend it to you, dear guests.'' - Marketing and PR manager of the Alter Hotel Dariusz Łazowski.
Nowadays, concierge is a special task man. The formal list of duties in this profession practically does not exist, because he is faced with new, unpredictable situations everyday. On the list of tasks you can find some ordinary, down-to-earth activities that a traveler simply doesn't have time or desire to do, such as walking a dog or shopping. However, most often these tasks are much more complicated, sometimes even impossible to perform, such as buying tickets for a sold out show in a theatre or a helicopter transfer for "here and now".
